What Is the ZR2 & Why Is It Coming to the Silverado?

Chevrolet Silverado | Dixon, IL

Chevrolet first offered the ZR2 off-road package in 1994 on the Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Since then, it has expanded to be available on other Chevy trucks and SUVs. Most recently, it was relaunched as a trim level on the Chevrolet Colorado and has been there since 2017.

Now, Chevrolet has teased that the ZR2 trim will be making its way to the Silverado lineup for the 2022 model year at Ken Nelson Chevrolet. Here are some Silverado ZR2 details you should know.

What is the ZR2 package?

The ZR2 is an equipment and performance package that enhances off-road capabilities. On the Colorado, it adds ZR2 off-road suspension, an automatic locking rear differential, increased ground clearance, an Off-Road Appearance Package, and a Multimatic DSSV™ Damping System.

What can we expect on the Silverado ZR2?

As for the Silverado ZR2, we don’t know specifics yet, but we expect to see similar off-road-ready features. Car and Driver suggests that the Silverado ZR2 will come equipped with 35-inch tires, front and rear locking differentials, skid plates, and a suspension lift.

Chevrolet says this exciting new addition to the Silverado lineup will be making its debut this fall at dealerships — including here at Ken Nelson Chevrolet in Dixon, Illinois. If you want a pickup truck that offers maximum off-roading potential, keep an eye out for the debut of the Silverado ZR2.
