Picking the Right Off-Roading Tires for Your GMC or Chevy Truck

Picking the Right Off-Roading Tires for Your GMC or Chevy Truck | Dixon, IL

New to off-roading and want to ready your Silverado or Sierra for its inaugural excursion? Here are three tips for picking the right off-roading tires for your GMC or Chevy truck.

Determine what you need

One of the first things to consider is where you’ll be driving your GMC or Chevy truck on most of your adventures. You also want to determine whether you plan on using your truck primarily for off-roading or a mix of commuting and some off-roading.

Off-roading tires come in two main categories: All-Terrain (AT) and Mud-Terrain (MT). The former are made to handle a variety of terrain and road conditions while delivering quieter ride quality on asphalt routes. MT tires, by contrast, are a bit louder for commutes, but get optimum traction in muddy, gravelly, rocky, or soggy conditions.

Stay within your budget

As with other types of tires, off-roading tires come in a range of prices. Establish a budget beforehand before you commit to a set of off-roading tires, so you don’t pay for overpriced tires when cheaper ones will serve your purpose.

Go with the right size

Make sure that the off-road tires you choose are the right size for your particular GMC or Chevy truck. The wrong sized tires can negatively impact the truck’s performance in areas such as steering response, efficiency, and handling. The smaller Canyon and Colorado will pair better with a smaller size tire than the larger Sierra and Silverado, for example.

What Is the ZR2 & Why Is It Coming to the Silverado?

Chevrolet Silverado | Dixon, IL

Chevrolet first offered the ZR2 off-road package in 1994 on the Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Since then, it has expanded to be available on other Chevy trucks and SUVs. Most recently, it was relaunched as a trim level on the Chevrolet Colorado and has been there since 2017.

Now, Chevrolet has teased that the ZR2 trim will be making its way to the Silverado lineup for the 2022 model year at Ken Nelson Chevrolet. Here are some Silverado ZR2 details you should know.

What is the ZR2 package?

The ZR2 is an equipment and performance package that enhances off-road capabilities. On the Colorado, it adds ZR2 off-road suspension, an automatic locking rear differential, increased ground clearance, an Off-Road Appearance Package, and a Multimatic DSSV™ Damping System.

What can we expect on the Silverado ZR2?

As for the Silverado ZR2, we don’t know specifics yet, but we expect to see similar off-road-ready features. Car and Driver suggests that the Silverado ZR2 will come equipped with 35-inch tires, front and rear locking differentials, skid plates, and a suspension lift.

Chevrolet says this exciting new addition to the Silverado lineup will be making its debut this fall at dealerships — including here at Ken Nelson Chevrolet in Dixon, Illinois. If you want a pickup truck that offers maximum off-roading potential, keep an eye out for the debut of the Silverado ZR2.

Chevy Multi-Flex Tailgate Will Be Available on 2022 Silverado HD in Dixon, IL

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD | Dixon, IL

Chevrolet has announced that the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD will offer the automaker’s innovative Multi-Flex Tailgate. This must-have feature has six configurations to accommodate a range of cargo transportation needs and to make bed access easier. The 2022 Silverado HD is coming this summer to Ken Nelson Chevrolet, and here’s what you can expect.

The Multi-Flex Tailgate has both an inner gate and an outer gate that you can adjust for different tasks. For instance, with the primary gate load stop, the outer gate lays flat and a load stop flips up, giving your bed extra length. The inner gate also has a load stop, keeping long items stacked on top of others in place.

Multi-Flex also lets you fold the inner gate down flat so you can get closer to the cargo in the bed, or you can convert the folded inner gate into a full-width step. The inner gate can even convert into a flat work surface, so you can use a computer with the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot or have an on-the-go tool bench.

In addition to the Multi-Flex Tailgate, you can get the available Power Up/Down tailgate option on the LT, LTZ, or High Country trims of the Silverado HD.

Previously, the Multi-Flex tailgate has only been offered on the Silverado 1500, which we also have at Ken Nelson Chevrolet. For pickup truck drivers who need the robust towing and hauling performance of the Silverado HD here in Dixon, Illinois, this is great news. Buy your Silverado 1500 or Silverado HD here at Ken Nelson Chevrolet.
